A former SSI supplier has expanded into Europe, winning two contracts in the Netherlands.
Middlesbrough-based Shaw Lifting, which tests, services and supplies all types of lifting equipment, has carried out major inspections on ships’ lifting equipment in the ports of Rotterdam and Amsterdam for its clients Deep Ocean Group and Modus Seabed Intervention.
Shaw Lifting engineers tested and certified ‘A’ frame lifting equipment on the decks of two vessels used to lay undersea cables and supply construction materials to offshore windfarms. The ships were unable to return to a UK port before the regulatory inspection was due, so Shaw Lifting’s team travelled to the Netherlands.
“Winning these contracts is part of our strategy to expand our business into Europe, with the aim that in five years we will be carrying out lifting equipment
inspection and maintenance work at major ports across the continent,” says Shaw Lifting manging director Peter Turner.
“It’s part of the long term plan we put in place when we lost work with a number of suppliers to SSI.The business has recovered well and we are now growing quickly, winning more work from well-known and respected customers such as PD Ports, Cleveland Potash, Sarens UK and Richard Preston and Sons, but we are keen to win more.”
To support its expansion plans, Shaw Lifting has revamped its website at www.shaw-lifting.com and is attending a series of industry exhibitions starting with NEPIC’s Meet the Members Event at Wynyard Hall on 21 June.
Shaw Lifting services, tests, inspects, manufactures and supplies all types of lifting equipment and load restraint equipment for all sectors, but especially for offshore, oil and gas, port authorities, petrochemical, mining and construction throughout the United Kingdom and Europe.
It was the first company in its sector to be awarded the prestigious ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Standard by Lloyds Register, not just as a company, but specifically for its manufacturing, sales, hire, on-site testing, inspection and servicing processes, as well as for safety at height equipment.
